Highest Paying Dividend Stocks – in Focus EDR

The purpose of this post is to give a little more detail on the individual stocks that have the highest dividends yields out of all the roughly 2,000 companies we follow. Our goal is to direct investors not just to the highest paying dividend stocks, but to the best dividend paying stocks.

Background

Education Realty Trust (EDR) is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust (REIT). It is one of the largest owners, developers and managers of high-quality student housing in the U.S. EDR is located mainly in the eastern and southern parts of the country.

Stock Fundamentals

The growth outlook for this company is not great. However, its financial strength is decent and it does not score really badly on any of the other metrics we study. Still, despite its high dividend yield, EDR is fully priced and there is no bargain here.

This company has done well since we initially put a “Sell” recommendation on it on 1/15/16. But do not be fooled. EDR has done well because the market has been extremely strong (the S&P 500 is up 10.2 percent since 1/15/16), and this company has a volatile price. We feel the long-term outlook on this company is subpar.

We do not necessarily think this is a bad company. It is just selling at a bad price. There is more risk here than return. There are bigger bargains elsewhere.
